Perth to Kalgoolie - Ride for Charity
Last week our member Chris Lucas rode 600km from Kalgoorlie to Perth along the pipeline to raise money for Youth Futures' Nest program.
The Net program provides homes for young homeless mothers who would otherwise lose custody of their children.
A group of 60 riders rode over 5 days from town to town riding up to 183kms in a day (8 hours on the bike).
The trail was all dirt, sand and mud which made it tough going in places. It rained very hard on the morning of day 4 which made the trail extremely muddy and setting off in the rain was a hard slog for a whopping 170kms.
Chris was covered head to tail in mud including the bike which probably weighed twice as much because of it. On the Last day it was only 90kms, however a 1000m of elevation. Hill after hill after hill; their legs were pushed to the limits. One last 5 hour ride to finish the event.
Together all riders raised over $120,000 for a great cause. Chris would like to mention a Big thanks to Ty and Mick for helping prepare and train for the event. Really helped with my strength and conditioning. Because I had a big fuel tank I could rely on, I knew I could push the pace and try and spend as little time as possible on that pain inducing saddle.
