Getting to know our member... Jess Hill
At Competitive Boxing Gym we treat our members as our family, and Jess Hill is one member of our family who continues to go from strength to strength.
The work ethic that Jess exhibits and her determination to improve has not gone unnoticed by us, so as a special treat, lets learn a little more about what makes her tick!
1. How would you describe yourself?
I’d say quite friendly, personable and open minded, I can pretty much have a good conversation with anyone. I am very happy in a group of people but also completely happy being in my own company as well!
2. What are your hobbies/passions?
Does coming to the gym count? This is a hard one, I read, watch tv and online shop in my down time/me time when I slow down for the day. I also love hanging out with my dogs and making time and doing things for my friends and family.
3. Where do you work?
I am a Human Resources Consultant, working for a small HR Consultancy Firm located in West Perth. I have several long-term clients that I work at each week and provide them specialist HR Support. I love helping leaders in the development and growth of their teams - making sure people love what they do.
4. What are your worst habits?
Being late, over committing/saying yes to everyone, being uncomfortable talking about myself and putting too many exclamation marks in my work emails!
5. What are your best traits?
Social Awareness – empathy, reliability and positivity.

6. What made you start coming to Competitive Boxing and Fitness?
I’ve always enjoyed physical activity, but never really enjoyed going to the gym alone and have to plan my own workouts. I fell into a slump of “being too busy” during my first two years of work after finishing University. After our first lock down in 2020, I did a few boxing classes elsewhere with a friend and really really enjoyed it, so I started looking around for a place closer to my house and found the Competitive Gym – I got hooked and never looked back!
7. What fitness/exercise did you do before you started at here?
Running, Pilates and general gym - but not very consistently, I would go through ups and downs with my motivation and commitment.
8. Do you feel like being here has made a difference to your wellbeing?
Hugely, making time before and after work had never seemed so possible before joining this place. I attend classes no matter how my day went, as I feel great every time I finish one! I also feel a lot better within myself.
9. How would you describe the people and atmosphere at Competitive?
The people and atmosphere are amazing, I’ve never been a part of anything like it. Positive, inclusive, supportive and fun. Everyone is there to encourage others and grow stronger together.
10. If you were trying to sell joining Competitive to other people, what three words would you use?
Supportive, Inclusive, Fun!
11. What are your goals for the future?
Really my main goal is to just be happy - I want to always be enjoying my career, not just doing it to get by. Be surrounded by friends and family who encourage and support each other. Be content with whatever my life looks like - I don’t want to get stuck comparing myself to others and what their life looks like at that time.
